26th February session 12

No matter how hard I have tried, I have run out of excuses, so now with the new
boring bar it is time to bite the bullet and get on with the job. I took about an hour
just taking a few thou of the inside of the crankcase. I was so concerned to make
sure I didn't take off what couldn't put back, it was a case of check, re set all the
settings, take some more off, move the cross slide out the way and measure......re
set the settings again and take a little more off....you get the picture... I then
measured in the correct distance to bore out the crankcase to 0.0910" leaving
sufficient material at the back to take the thread cutting (see photo 1 below). The
next task after the 'boring' bit was to ream out the shaft through hole. I decided
that it was a little to much to clear with my reamer so went another drill size up
from Ron's description and this seemed to go much better with material still being
cut.

I decided that it would be better to leave the thread cutting until the next time as I
was getting a little tired, so that excitement still awaits me! Overall though I was
quite pleased with the session. I had achieved my task of not turning the
crankcase into a strange shaped piece of scrap! Whilst I hope I am not talking too
soon, I am happy with the dimensions matching the plans to within 0.0005" but
there is many a slip etc.....

Time spent today 3 hours Total to date 24 hours. 30 minutes. (Imagine the labour costs!)
