Fowler A7 2" scale Traction Engine Recommencement of build after a gap of some 6 years! September 2006 saw us move to our final home, following retirement. The next 12 months then saw us concentrate on extending the bungalow we live in, so only since January 2008, have I been able to finally settle down to some serious engineering time! Now on to the major project of mine. I bought my Fowler 2" scale traction engine some 7 or 8 years ago from an engineer who was giving up after many years. He had the wheels made professionally and also the boiler and gears. The majority of castings required to finish the project were part of the purchase price. The large cylinder casting had some work done by the previous owner who told me that one drill had gone astray when drilling the ports. So I may either have to replace it with one I would machine myself, or plug it, then drill another (if possible), but that's for the future. So I 'inherited' the majority of what you see in the photo's in the gallery below, although the horn plates are my work, along with steering parts and some other bits and pieces. The castings and plans are from MJ Engineering (link to their site on the links pahe) and several of these models have been made in the past. I am writing up my account of the future build in the form of a diary, as with my other 'projects' and you can either scroll through or click on links in the menu. |
