Whilst waiting for a part I have just silver soldered, to cool down I decided to start on the anodising project. The first part of the long term use of anodising as a finish for existing and future models, is to put together the 'mechanics' of the process. Having aquired an acid friendly container, a start was made on making the two cathodes and a means of securring wires to them. So two large round aluminum bars were cut to size ebfore going to the Milling machine and firstly cutting two slots in each bar so they will slot over the sides of the container. Next a recess was milled in both bars so the aluminum cathode blocks can be screwed to the bars. Then 6 brass studs were turned and then threaded to act as wire securing posts with knurled nuts to hold the wires in place. Photo's below show the container and the work completed in this first session. The process itself will follow soon and revolves around the cleaning and polishing of the parts to be anodised. However if you want information before please email me or leave a post on the blog site. To be continued.... |
